Caiño Tinto

    • Geographical distribution
    • Galician native winegrape cultivar. Caiño Tinto is also produced in the North of Portugal, where it is known as Borraçal.

    • Agronomic features
    • This variety is sensitive to the oïdium (Uncinula necator), but it is more resistant to the botritys (Botrytis cinerea) and excorise (Phomopsis viticola). It withstands well droughts and is adapted to the slightly fertile soils. In fresh areas, it does not mature correctly. Caiño Tinto winegrapes have a high requirement of potassium.

    • Phenology
    • Date of budbreak: early
    • Date of maturity: medium-late

    • Características enológicas
    • Caiño Tinto grapes produce bitter and tannic musts, with plenty of colors, high alcoholic content and high acidity. This variety is ideal for very aromatic young wines, which can reach excellent quality if the production process is properly regulated.
