A red variety widely represented in La Rioja, but with significant presence in the autonomous communities of Castilla-La Mancha and Navarra.
Resistant to powdery mildew and downy mildew. Quite resistant to drought. It adapts quite well to all types of soils although it prefers clayey or fresh limestone soils.
Wines with medium-high to high alcohol content and high acidity. They stand out for their aromas of licorice, their tannic character, and a slightly bitter taste. Musts with a tendency to oxidation.
